America and other countries like Italy, Spain and South Korea are in a state of panic as COVID-19 spreads like wildfire. And while this virus is new and volatile, panic and hysteria are not the answer. As a matter of fact, panic is another word for stress, and stress increases cortisol, directly affecting our body’s ability to fight off bacteria and pathogens. This is why I wanted to share my go-to immunity protocols to help reduce the risk of exposure and contraction of the COVID-19 Virus.

Along with the immunity protocols for COVID-19 I’ve listed in this blog post, I’m also ensuring I get my updates from trusted sources such as the CDC and not getting too carried away with hearsay via social media or fearmongering news outlets looking to boost ratings. Protecting my mental health is just as important as protecting my immunity, everything is connected.

TIPS TO BOOST THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Dietary

  • Add raw garlic to salad dressings or munch on whole cloves. Full disclosure and speaking from experience – it will make your breath stink for 2 days.
  • Load up on food sources of Vitamin C like broccoli, oranges, sumo citrus, bell peppers, cauliflower, kale, papaya, sweet potato, strawberries, and tomatoes.
  • Make your own wellness shot – throw into a blender – 1 peeled lemon, 1-inch nub ginger, 1 peeled orange, 1/2 tsp turmeric. Blend together, strain and pour into shot glasses. Finish with a few drops of oregano oil. If you’re game, you can also add a clove of garlic to the blender too.
  • Load up on your greens – green juice, green smoothies with spirulina added, or celery juice. All of these vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants are going to help keep your immune system strong.
  • Limit your intake of sugar, alcohol & refined carbs. These processed foods can weaken the immune system.

Supplements

Holistically

  • Get 8 hours of sleep each night
  • Exercise – even if it’s a 15-minute at-home yoga flow or a 30-minute walk
  • Reduce your stress levels by limiting caffeine intake, keeping a positive mindset, get onto apps like Calm, or Headspace for a guided meditation.
  • Stay connected to your community. Call a loved one. Use social media for good. Or even send me a DM if you just want to chat. Staying connected during troubling times can help us feel less isolated, especially during self-containment.
  • Keep your gut health strong. A healthy gut = a stronger immune system. To read up on boosting your gut health check out The Ultimate Guide to Gut Health e-book here.
